About Us

The 306 (Maple Leaf) Wing (Montreal, QC) is fortunate to be one of the few members of the Royal Air Force Association of Canada to have its own concert band. Formerly associated with the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada, the 306 Wing's concert band has been entertaining the public since the 1950's at venues ranging from parks to music festivals to the Veterans' Hospital in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC. Richard Munroe directed the Black Watch (RHR) Association Concert Band until 1989 at which time Peter Wright took over as director. In 1996 Barbara Hunter became the Music Director and oversaw the transition of the group into the Association Band of the 306 Maple Leaf Wing. Since 2009, the band has been directed by 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Sergeant Brent Besner. In 2015, the concert band toured Nova Scotia, performed concerts at Dartmouth, Greenwood and Cornwallis, and participated in the Annapolis Royal Band Festival. A second tour, to Moncton and P.E.I., took place during the summer of 2017.

The 306 (Maple Leaf) Wing is proud to have received the Carling Red Cap Trophy which is presented to the Wing in the Royal Canadian Air Force Association Quebec Group who had the highest annual increase in membership.

Thank you to all members for their continued support of the values of the RCAFA: Heritage-Advocacy-Youth.

In 2017, the band was awarded the prestigious Certificate of Grand Merit.
